Rafael Benitez has revealed that he is looking forward to facing his old club Liverpool after the fixture schedule for the 2017 and 2018 season was released earlier today.
The Spanish coach spent 6 years managing Liverpool and led the UEFA Champions League success and an FA Cup win during his time at the club.
Newcastle will go against Liverpool at home on the 30th of September before their return fixture at Anfield on the 30th of March and Benitez is very excited about the reunion.
I am definitely looking forward to the clash
Benitez revealed to Newcastle official website, “these games will be very special to me but it is not just about these games because I expect every game to be exciting and challenging.”
“It will definitely be nice to come against Brighton and Chris Hughton once again. This is their first time in top flight football and our rivalry in the lower league will make this game more exciting for us.”
Rafael Benitez brought Newcastle back to the Premier League after just one season in the Championship and they will be welcomed to the league with a game against Tottenham on the first.
Benitez brought Newcastle on the last season Championship title and got a home game against Tottenham on the opening weekend of the new season as their rewards. Although Newcastle United won the last clash with Tottenham 5-1, Benitez believes this record is very unlikely.
“It is very exciting to finally see the fixtures for next season and I know the fans are looking forward to the games”. It is great to kick off the season against Tottenham and from there we can build on for the rest of the season.
This will be Rafael Benitez’s third season in charge of Newcastle United after his under par season at Real Madrid.
