Tom Estey, a representative for former fitness guru Richard Simmons, has once again had to shoot down constant claims that the 80’s star has gone missing or has been held hostage within his own house.
The most recent allegations came from a podcast started by Dan Taberski entitles Missing Richard Simmons, and hopes to seek the truth behind why Simmons has disappeared completely from public appearances.
In episode three of the podcast, Taberski spoke to Simmons’ close longtime friend, as well as former masseuse, one Mauro Oliveira. He shared claims that the exercise mogul is a hostage of his housekeeper Teresa Reveles.
“It was 6 p.m., and I went into his house. He was sitting in the living room, and he was very weakly, physically and mentally. He was trembling. He said, ‘Mauro. I called you here because we cannot see each other anymore. I’m just going to stay here,'” recalled Oliveira of the most recent time he had seen Simmons, back in May 2014. “I thought of the worst. I thought the worst was going to happen. I thought he was suicidal.”
Oliveira also made claims that he wasn’t able to speak to Simmon in private before Reveles came in and intervened. “She realized that I was in the house, she started screaming like a witch, ‘No, no, no, no, get out, get out! I don’t want him here!’ Richard looked at me and said, ‘You got to go.’ I said, ‘Really? Is she controlling your life now?’ and he said, ‘Yes.’ And that I have to leave.”
In a recent statement, Estey completely denied allegations of these claims, and assured Simmons’ fans that he is doing well regardless of his lack of public appearances.
“Teresa has been working with him for 27 years. So, holding him hostage is the biggest, I mean…Teresa is the housekeeper, she’s the caretaker, she is extraordinary, she is amazing, she takes impeccable care of Richard and she has for as long as I have been working with Richard. So that is a complete load of crap,” he stated.
