Oprah Winfrey has expressed her thoughts on the chance that she may run for president in the 2020 elections.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg Television’s David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations, she revealed that she throught about running for the position of president and commander-in-chief after Trump’s win.
Interview and Thoughts
“Have you ever thought that given the popularity you have, we haven’t broken the glass ceiling yet for women, that you could actually run for president and be elected?” asked Rubenstein.
“I actually never thought that that was, I never considered the question even a possibility,” said Oprah.
“Right, because it’s clear that you don’t need government experience to be elected President of the United States, right?” Rubenstein asked.
“That’s what I thought,” said Oprah. “I thought, ‘Oh gee, I don’t have the experience. I don’t know enough. I don’t…’ And now I’m thinking, ‘Oh. Oh.’”
Despite being in the spotlight for decades, Oprah has abstained her opinios about endorsing a presidential nominee until President BarackObama’s bid in 2008. She also endorsed Hillary Clinton in the most recent 2016 elections, saying “You don’t have to like her. Do you like this country? Do you like this country? You better get out there and vote.”
Opinions on President
In that same interview, Oprah referred to the current President Donald Trump as being a “demagogue,” stating, “Do you like freedom and liberty? Do you like this country? Okay. Do you like democracy or do you want a demagogue? Okay.”
Whether or not she will actually run, Oprah has been keeping busy in recent months. She contributes to her own cable TV network called OWN, and filmed her HBO network The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks which debuts this April. She has also signed with 60 Minutes to join as a contributor in the fall.
