A Milwaukee local Muslim woman was attacked on her walk home from prayer, in which her hijab was ripped off, and was beaten “like an animal” as the attacker repeatedly stepped on her head, prompting claims of a hate crime investigation.
Milwaukee officials reported to FOX6 News that investigations of the brutal crime were underway.
Scene Of The Crime
The attack took place this Monday causing the victim to be hospitalized overnight.
“I said to myself, ‘I am going to die today for sure.’ So he gets up from the car and told me to come here,” said the terrified victim.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, described her experience beginning when a car pulled over as she proceeded to walk home.
A man exited the vehicle with one intent, to remove her headscarf she explained.
“He said to take my hijab, my scarf. I tried to fight him. ‘Don’t take my hijab,’ you know? So he threw me on the floor then he beat me like an animal,” she reported to local news.
The attacker managed to remove her scarf leaving it blood stained according to reports.
The woman described her attacker throwing her onto the pavement, and repeatedly stepping on her head.
The attack then proceeded to reveal a knife which was used to slice her jacket and arm.
Islamic Society Statements
“Certainly we’re scared for our community members. As an Islamic community, we want to make sure our community is always safe. The initial reaction is shock,” stated Munjed Ahmad of the Milwaukee Islamic Society.
Islamic Center members as well as supportive locals describe the attack as an official hate crime.
“Nothing was stolen. There was no robbery. Her valuables remain with her. The only motive we can think of — because everything stayed with her and this individual went straight for her scarf — is a hate crime,” Ahmad announced
