George Michael’s boyfriend is interviewed by police over the singer’s death

Police have quizzed tragic singer George Michael’s boyfriend Fadi Fawaz over the death of the superstar on Christmas Day. Mr Fawaz has now been questioned by detectives, who are trying to establish whether drugs may have played a part in the Wham! star’s death.

Detectives are also understood to be attempting to trace everyone who visited Mr Michael at his home in Oxfordshire in the week leading up to his death. The megastar was found dead, at the age of just 53, in bed in his home by Mr Fawaz.

His publicist claimed that he had died of heart failture, but no official cause of death has been established, and police have ordered a number of tests to be carried out, including calling for toxicology reports.

Australian celebrity hair stylist Mr Fawaz, who lives near Regent’s Park in London, has claimed that he fell asleep in his car on Christmas Eve, and only found Mr Michael when he went inside to wake him up for a planned Christmas lunch. Police have now questioned him about the singer’s final days and hours. The couple had been together since 2009 and Mr Fawaz said they were looking forward to spending Christmas Day with each other.

Detectives with Thames Valley Police will also be talking to family, friends and neighbours of the Last Christmas singer. Officers have also asked paparazzi photographs to hand over any snaps showing who visited Mr Michael’s house before his death.

An initial post mortem examination has proved inconclusive and the results of toxicoloby tests are not expected for a number of weeks. While Mr Michael’s death is not being treated as suspicious, police officers fear that drugs may have played a part. A report will be sent to the Oxfordshire coroner, Darren Salter, who will hold an inquest later this year in order to determine cause of death.
